The purpose of this blog is to provide first time parents with some information about infant care. My first child was born on my birthday, September 22, 2008. He came into the world healthy and I thank God every day for such a beautiful, healthy child. The only thing that I wish God would have sent with my son was an instruction manual and guide. As a brand new parent with a newborn, I was overwhelmed. I really had no clue what to do. So I began my research by pouring over many different websites and infant/ baby care books. I learned a lot along the way and I started to feel more confident in my new roll as a mom.
I feel like all the information that I have learned and my personal experience might help another mom out there just trying to muddle her way through each day. My sincerest hope is that you will benefit from what I have written about on this blog. Feel free to leave comments about your own personal experiences, triumphs, and failures. Hopefully other moms will benefit from your experiences and wisdom. Also, feel free to leave a question for me. I would love to try and answer it for you, or better yet, maybe another mom who reads my blog will have an answer or solution for you!
Thanks for visting my blog!
Hi there
I have a 8 month old little baby girl. We live in the UK and she had been sleeping through the night until we came to visit my family of origin in Dec 09. We left the UK with temperature of approximately -5°C and arrived in a much hotter country with temperatures around 30°C.
We have been here for the past 3 weeks and we have managed to stick to a similar daytime routine to the one we had at home (morning, lunchtime naps and sometimes a late afternoon nap). However, she is now waking several times at night (approximately at 11pm, 2am and between 5:30 and 6:30am). I always offer her a breastfeed which she takes eagerly. In the last couple of nights I decided to offer only one breast, with a view of stop these night feeds, but haven´t noticed any difference as yet.
I am concerned, however, if she is genuinely thirsty due to the intense heat or if this is due to travelling or even if this could be related to the 34 week wonder week (or perhaps all of the above?!). So I am reluctant to remove the feed completly.
I would be extremely grateful if you could provide me with any advice with this issue, as it has been quite tiring waking up at night – it feels like a have a newborn again!
I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing back from you.
Hello,
I was interested to read about your experience with the “45 min intruder”. I am having the same issue with my 13 week old son. In fact, he has been waking 30 minutes into each of his naps for the past 2 weeks. However, instead of settling himself back down and continuing with sleep after I pat him or just let him cry, he wakes every 10 minutes or sometimes never really settles back down but grunts, whines etc. The past few days for his later afternoon nap (4:30) he has started sleeping a long 2 hour stretch after the initial wake up 30 minutes in. We actually have to wake him up to feed him. He is a formula fed baby, taking 7oz every 4 hours. My gut tells me the problem is not that he is hungry. The fact that he can have long day naps in his car seat or stroller tells me that he is quite capable of taking a 2 hour nap. He’s also sleeping from 8:30pm until about 7am – waking off and on from 5:30am but always getting himself back to sleep.
Any advice or suggestions for this frustrated first time mom?

No, it is not too late to get your child on a schedule. I would talk to his daycare and form a schedule that you think that day care and you could follow that would be similar. Consistency is the key. If you stay consistent to a consistent wake time and consistent eating times, then your baby should fall into a nice routine and pattern for you. If you need more help establishing a good schedule, let me know.
